While there’s no one way to give a top-tier blowjob, there are some tips to help make the experience as pleasurable as possible—for both giver and receiver.

A “blowjob”—also known as “giving head,”“sucking cock” or “sucking dick,” among other terms—is oral sex performed on a person with a penis. It can be a great way to give pleasure and connect as partners.

That being said, when it comes to blowjobs, pleasure is not necessarily a one-way street! Although we often think about the receiver as being the one in control, for those into power play, blowjobs can be a fun way to switch up the dynamics. Which can in turn be really hot and pleasurable for the giver. In no way should a BJ be something that you give as merely a "gift" to your partner — this can totally be a satisfying, awesome experience for the giver. That said, if knowing that pleasuring your partner is something that makes you happy, that's amazing as well.

Ready for some next-level blowjob tips? Yes, we've included what to do when your jaw gets tired, because hey, it happens!

Best Blowjob Tips

As with every sex act, there are countless ways to approach and enjoy giving oral pleasure. That said, there are some helpful things to keep in mind when you decide to go down so you can maximize the pleasure:

1. Check In About STIs And Condom Use Before Going Down

Before you give or receive a blowjob, it’s a good idea (and good consent practice) to discuss STI status and prevention. That means informing your partner of when you were last tested, what the results were and if you’ve had partners since then. You should talk about whether you want to use a condom to reduce the risks of transmitting a sexual infection. Using a condom means that you can more fully enjoy your sexy times without added anxiety. Once that’s covered, you’re ready for the main event!

2. Avoid Teeth When Giving A BJ!

When putting your mouth on a penis, try not to let your teeth get in the way, and definitely don’t bite down (unless of course The Receiver has told you they want that)!

Covering your teeth with your lips, or pressing your lips firmly on the penis will help keep the teeth out of the way.

Teeth and biting can be painful to the penis and can tear the delicate skin on the shaft. Covering your teeth with your lips, or pressing your lips firmly on the penis will help keep the teeth out of the way.

3. Tease, kiss and lick!

Before going all in (or down) on a blowjob, remember that sometimes it’s about the journey, not the destination. Start to tease your partner first by kissing, licking and touching them in other areas of the body, such as their stomach, nipples, inner thighs, butt, testicles and even just the tip of the penis before fully allowing the rest of their penis in your mouth. This can help build up excitement and anticipation, making the experience that much more enjoyable. These techniques are also great to incorporate throughout the entire experience. It can create an even greater sensation for some to go back every now and then to these little touches and kisses even after you’ve already begun full-on sucking on the shaft.

4. Communicate About Preferences And Desires

Communicate with your partner when giving oral. Does The Receiver like it when you move their penis in and out of your mouth quickly or slowly? Do they like it when you maneuver your hands around the shaft while the tip of their penis is in your mouth? Does The Receiver like it when you gently grip their testicles with your hand while you suck on the penis, or do they like their testicles to be left alone? These are all important questions to ask, either ahead of time or as a part of checking in about how things are feeling in the moment.

5. Experiment With Blowjob Techniques

As your partner becomes more and more erect, try playing with rhythm and sucking intensity and speed. Using your hands on the shaft while focusing your mouth on the head can give sensation over the whole penis.

While not a beginner’s move, if you’re more experienced with BJs, and if both The Giver and The Receiver are into it, you can try deep throating. Deep throating involves putting the penis all the way into the mouth—watch out for that gag reflex! Adding a flavoured lube or a penis toy like a vibrating cock ring can also be great for switching things up and exploring new pleasure sensations.

6. What to do when your jaw gets tired.

After awhile, it’s normal that your jaw and/or neck may be tired or tense, so here are some tips to help ease your discomfort are:

First,  you can alternate between using your mouth and your hand. Give your mouth (and neck) a break and use your hands to continue stoking your partner.

Let them take the lead. It can be really fun and sexy to watch your partner pleasure themselves. If they’re comfortable with it, you can ask them to touch themselves for awhile until you feel ready to jump back in.

It’s okay to take breaks! Blowjobs can be a lot of work, and it’s not uncommon to stop and take a break until you are both rested and ready to start again. If you don’t want to stop everything completely, try switching up your type of play. You can make out, let your partner touch/kiss you, rub and grind, go into some anal play, etc.

You can also switching positions. It could be that you are in an uncomfortable position to begin with, causing your neck to cramp or jaw to tense up. Check out these best blowjob positions and see which might be most comfortable for you.

7. How Do You Want It To Finish?

Prepare for the finale! Blowjobs often end in ejaculation, which begs the question: Where should the semen go? Some people prefer to swallow the semen after a blowjob, while others prefer the ejaculate to go on their face or into a towel. These are all things that should be discussed before ejaculation occurs to maximize enjoyment and to be considerate of the boundaries of both The Giver and Receiver.

Now you’re ready to play! Keep these top tips in mind when going down in order to give mind-blowing blowjobs that are enjoyable for both The Receiver and The Giver.

Alright, so penis, we have the penis! I'm going to talk about essentially three parts of the penis. So the main, the goods, the meat of the penis, is called often the shaft. So that's basically this part here. It goes from the balls essentially to up, the whole thing can actually be considered the shaft. We're also gonna talk about the balls just a little bit. Again, I'm not gonna go too, lookin' right at ya'll folks, I'm not gonna go too into technique or strategy here, but the balls can really add a little novelty and fun to the blow job experience. The part that I'm going to talk most about today, or I think the most important part to know about blow jobs is the head of the penis, also known as the glands, which almost I like to describe kind of as like, I'll do a little 360 spin, almost looks like a little mushroom top at the top of the penis. Now, if a penis is uncircumcised, when it's not erect, you won't see the head, 'cause the foreskin will be above it, or covering it I should say, but for both circumcised and uncircumcised penises, the foreskin would retract during erection, so they would essentially look the same way when erect whether or not they're circumcised. Okay, and the most very important part that sometimes people don't really know too much about is called the frenulum, and I'm gonna zoom, I'm never good at this camera, the frenulum, which is this little area right here where the shaft meets the head of the penis. Now, I won't go that much into it, but essentially, the tissue that makes up the head or the glands of the penis, is the same tissue that makes up the clitoris just more widely dispersed. So, there are a lot of nerve endings on the penis. It is the most concentrated area of nerve endings, are in the head of the penis. So there's going to be more sensitivity and sensation around the head than there is for the rest of the shaft and this is important to know during blow jobs 'cause this is where you should be focusing your attention for the most bang for your buck, and in particular, the frenulum is actually the highest, teeny little concentration of nerve endings. Right here. We could, this model doesn't have some other helpful parts that could be used during blow jobs, which is, so behind the balls, between the balls and the anus, which would be about down here or so, is the area that we call the perineum. Other names for it include the taint or the gooch. This can also be a sensitive spot. You can externally stimulate the perineum, and by externally stimulate, I mean basically like rub that skin to kind of externally stimulate the prostate. The prostate sometimes, some people know the prostate as like, the male g-spot. Stimulating the prostate either externally or internally, talk about that in a second, can increase pleasure and lead to more explosive, intense orgasms.
